Biography

Dr Juuso Nieminen (he/him) is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Research in Assessment and Digital Learning (CRADLE) at Deakin University, Australia. He also holds the titles of Adjunct Professor (Docent) at the University of Eastern Finland and Honorary Assistant Professor at the University of Hong Kong.

Dr Nieminen’s research concerns how educational assessment takes shape and shapes people in contemporary societies. He has particularly studied the social effects of assessment on students’ inclusion, belonging and identities. His disciplinary background is in mathematics and technology education.

Dr Nieminen’s research has been published in multiple leading journals in the fields of assessment, higher education and mathematics education, such as Studies in Higher Education, Higher Education and Educational Studies in Mathematics. Methodologically, his expertise is in research synthesis and advanced qualitative methods.

Dr Nieminen is active in editorial work. He is an Editorial Board Member in Educational Studies in Mathematics and Belonging, a Co-Editor in Higher Education Research & Development and an Assistant Editor in Teaching in Higher Education.

Dr Nieminen’s background is in teaching. He has teacher qualifications in mathematics and technology education (University of Helsinki, Finland) and special education (University of Helsinki, Finland).
